Fine Art Photographer
I have been producing my Fine Art Photographs beginning with my first
trip to Spain in 1967. Since that time, I have traveled and
photographed extensively in seventeen countries as well as numerous
areas in the United States.
I am self-taught in photography and purposely did not study other
photographers work during my formative years as a photographer so as
not to be influenced by other photographers style and technique.
Instead, I spent long hours visiting the great museums in Europe and
the U.S. studying my favorite painters such as Cezanne and Picasso.
Invariably, my collectors compare my images with fine painting. The
same elements that are essential for successful paintings apply to my
photographic images. I attempt to capture the fleeting moment of the
convergence of light, texture, color and form in a composition that
transcends that split second and endures for one to see and appreciate.
I do not specifically start out a day searching for a particular
subject to photograph in a preconceived way. I believe that it is
essential to allow the day to wash around me and to be surprised at
what images present themselves. It is very easy to pass by the great
image while looking for something specific.
To create these images, I use a Hasselblad with various lenses and a
Nikon and Pentax for 35mm work, all without a tripod. I prefer using
medium and small format cameras so as to best take advantage of the
rapidly changing nature of light and the movement of figures in a
composition. I use Kodak negative film in all speeds without any
filters. I am one of the small number of exhibiting photographers who
print their own photographs. I use Kodak chemistry and Fujicolor
crystal archive paper for unmatched color fidelity and print longevity.
I have owned and operated studio-galleries for the past twenty years in
both Northern and Southern California, exhibited in numerous galleries
and museums and have more than 17,000 collectors of my work throughout
the world. I also travel from coast to coast in the United States
exhibiting in top juried fine art festivals.
